Best Shangarh Tour Packages from Pune — When the Sahyadris Feel Too Familiar and Kasol Feels Too Loud

Shangarh Tour Packages from Pune

If you have been trekking the Sahyadris every other weekend and doing the Kasol trip once a year, Shangarh is the trip that gives you something neither of them can anymore.

A direct flight from Pune to Chandigarh takes about two hours and twenty minutes. From Chandigarh, a day's drive takes you through Mandi and into the Sainj Valley. By the next morning, you are standing on a wide green meadow surrounded by deodar forest at about 2,100 metres, with an old wooden Shiva temple at its edge, forest trails disappearing into the Great Himalayan National Park, and nobody else around.

Shangarh is not a trekking base camp. It is not a tourist village. It is a meadow, a temple, a handful of stone houses, and the kind of quiet that Kasol lost years ago and that the Sahyadris, beautiful as they are, cannot offer at this scale.

For a Pune traveller with five or more days of leave, Shangarh is one of the most rewarding quiet mountain trips available. Combine it with Tirthan Valley and you have a week that covers meadows, forests, rivers and trails without touching a single crowded destination.

Featured Shangarh Package Types from Pune

5 Days, 4 Nights: Pune to Shangarh Meadow and Trek Trip

The shortest comfortable format. Fly to Chandigarh, drive to Shangarh, spend two full days exploring the meadow, the temple, the waterfall and the Pundrik Rishi Lake trek. Return. Good for Pune trekkers and couples who want a focused trip.

6 Days, 5 Nights: Pune to Shangarh Comfortable Stay

Adds a third day for village exploration, slow mornings and deeper forest walks. Three nights in a homestay with time to settle into the pace of the village. The version we recommend for most Pune travellers.

7 to 8 Days: Shangarh with Tirthan Valley from Pune

Combines Shangarh with Tirthan Valley on the other side of the Aut turnoff. Meadow and forest in Shangarh. River, trails and Jibhi in Tirthan. Two valleys, two moods. The strongest format from Pune.

Why Pune Travellers Should Consider Shangarh

Pune has one of the strongest trekking cultures in India. The Sahyadri club, the weekend hikes, the fort treks, the night trails. Most active Pune travellers have a Himalayan trip on their list every year, and for many of them that trip has been Kasol, Manali or a Ladakh dream.

Shangarh is a different kind of Himalayan trip. It is not about altitude or adrenaline. It is about a meadow that opens out of thick forest at 2,100 metres, a centuries old wooden temple at its edge, and a village so small and so quiet that after a day you forget what your phone sounds like.

The trekking is real but gentle. The Pundrik Rishi Lake trek takes you through deodar and rhododendron forest into the buffer zone of the Great Himalayan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For Pune trekkers who have graduated from the Sahyadris and want Himalayan forest without the difficulty of a high altitude expedition, it is exactly the right level.

A direct flight from Pune to Chandigarh takes about two hours and twenty minutes. Five days of leave gives you a proper trip. Add Tirthan Valley and you have a full week without touching a single crowded town.

How to Get from Pune to Shangarh

Fly to Chandigarh (recommended). IndiGo and Air India operate direct flights, about 2 hours 20 minutes. From Chandigarh, a private cab takes you through Mandi and into the Sainj Valley.

Fly to Delhi. More flight options and sometimes lower fares. From Delhi, continue by overnight bus to Aut or fly onward to Chandigarh.

After landing, we coordinate the ground vehicle and itinerary from your arrival.

Route from Chandigarh to Shangarh

Chandigarh to Mandi about 200 km, smooth highway. Mandi to Aut about 30 km. Aut to Sainj about 20 km. Sainj to Shangarh about 10 km, narrow, steep, gravelled, through thick deodar forest. Total about 240 km, 6 to 7 hours from Chandigarh.

Can You Combine Shangarh with Tirthan Valley?

Yes. From Pune, this combination is what makes the trip genuinely complete. At Aut, the road splits. Left into Sainj Valley for Shangarh. Right into Tirthan Valley for Jibhi and Gushaini. Two or three nights in Shangarh. Two nights in Tirthan. Shangarh gives you the forest and the meadow. Tirthan gives you the river and the trails. Together they make one of the best short Himachal circuits available.
