The best time to visit Kerala is from October to March. The weather stays pleasant, perfect for sightseeing, houseboat stays, or just relaxing by the beach. This is also when Kerala is at its greenest and most welcoming.
Try to avoid visiting between June and August. That’s the monsoon season in Kerala. While the rain makes everything look lush and fresh, it might interrupt outdoor plans or beach visits. Unless you’re visiting for Ayurvedic treatments, it’s not the ideal time.
Munnar is at its most beautiful from September to February. You’ll find misty mornings, clear skies, and tea gardens in full bloom. It’s a great time to enjoy the peace and beauty of the hills.
The off-season runs from June to August when Kerala gets heavy monsoon rains. It’s a quieter time with fewer tourists and rich green views, but activities like boating might not be available everywhere.
If you’re short on time, 5 to 7 days can give you a good experience of places like Munnar, Thekkady, and Alleppey. But if you want to slow down and take it all in, eight to ten days is even better.
Winter, from October to March, is perfect for families. The weather is safe and comfortable, the roads are clear, and you can explore everything from beaches to spice gardens with ease.

Swimming in the backwaters is generally not advised due to water currents and hygiene concerns. But you can safely swim at some of Kerala’s beaches, like Varkala and Kovalam, where marked zones are available.
