Know Before You Go

  • Walking: Most sightseeing involves a walk from the vehicle drop point, on slopes, steps and uneven ground that can be slippery when wet. The walks are easy to moderate, not technical treks, and you can sit one out. Carry comfortable walking shoes.
  • Transport: Overnight travel between Delhi and Aut is by Volvo or Tempo Traveller, and the arrangement for your departure is confirmed with you before booking, so it is not an individual pick at the same price. Inside the valley we use a Tempo Traveller, Sumo or SUV by group size and road, changing vehicles at Aut. For Volvo departures, reach your designated boarding point at the shared reporting time and our coordinator helps you over the phone. For Tempo Traveller departures, follow the confirmed pickup and return arrangement.
  • Trip captain: Groups of more than 10, the Social Group and Full Batch, travel with a dedicated trip captain from Aut until the return handover. Smaller groups of up to 10 do not have a separate captain and are looked after by the local driver and our team on call.
  • Stay: A budget hotel or homestay in Shangarh, both nights at the same property, confirmed before departure. Check-in follows the property policy, so early room access on the arrival morning is not guaranteed, though you can drop bags and freshen up.
  • Your four nights: The four nights are two nights at your stay in Shangarh and two overnight journeys between Delhi and Aut, on Day 1 and Day 4, so pack an easy-to-carry bag for the overnight legs.
  • Arrival morning: We usually stop near Aut to freshen up and have breakfast, at your own cost, before driving to Shangarh. If the journey runs late, we continue towards Shangarh and adjust the stop. Freshening-up charges, if any, are extra, and a private room or shower is not promised.
  • Meals: 2 breakfasts and 2 dinners are included, on both stay nights in Shangarh. The arrival-morning breakfast, all lunches, cafe purchases and the dinners on the overnight journeys are on you, so keep some cash handy.
  • Bonfire: One short evening bonfire at your stay is included, for about an hour on a stay night, weather permitting. It may not run if the weather does not allow.
  • Sightseeing flow: The first sightseeing day covers the Barshangarh Waterfall and the meadows, the next day the Pundrik Rishi Lake walk from Deori village, and the final valley day the Rupi Raila Waterfall with one optional activity. Day by day the plan can shift for your arrival time, road and trail access and daylight.
  • Opt-outs: If you would rather skip a walk, there is an agreed accessible waiting point and regrouping time with the team. We do not run separate vehicles, extra guides or individual transfers for opt-outs.
  • Final-day options: After the Rupi Raila Waterfall, the group does one optional choice, rafting in the Kullu or Bhuntar area, the Raila Twin Towers, or the Manu Rishi Temple in the Shanshar area of Sainj Valley. These are alternatives, not all three, decided for the group by time, road conditions and the return schedule, and the Twin Towers also involve walking and steps.
  • Rafting: Rafting is optional, not included and not guaranteed. It depends on the operator running, suitable river conditions and eligibility, and the location and travel time are confirmed before you commit. It is paid by the travellers taking part and never at the risk of missing the return transport.
  • Season: For November departures, pack warm layers. We keep the hikes to the morning where we can and leave the meadows earlier for the light, and the property keeps warm bedding and hot water ready for the colder nights.
  • Festival traffic: Dates around 21 to 27 October fall in the Kullu Dussehra window, so expect heavier highway traffic and plan for a little extra time.
  • Connectivity: Mobile signal is patchy in the valley. Jio works in places and BSNL is usually better. Tell your family before you head in and download offline maps.
  • Cash and ATMs: There are no ATMs near Shangarh, so carry enough cash for meals, personal expenses and anything unplanned.
  • Weather: Mountain weather changes quickly, so carry a jacket and a rain cover even if Delhi looks clear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this trip good for solo travellers?

Yes. Most people on this trip are solo travellers or small friend groups who want to see Sainj Valley and Shangarh without planning every detail themselves. It runs as a small group with prearranged local transfers, and the larger batches travel with a dedicated trip captain, so it is easy to join on your own.

How does the transport work on this trip?

Overnight travel between Delhi and Aut is by Volvo or Tempo Traveller, and the arrangement for your departure is confirmed with you before booking. Inside the valley we use a Tempo Traveller, Sumo or SUV by group size and road, changing vehicles at Aut. Groups of more than 10 travel with a dedicated trip captain to the return handover; smaller groups of up to 10 do not.

Can I choose between the Volvo and the Tempo Traveller?

The overnight transport is Volvo or Tempo Traveller depending on the departure, and we confirm the arrangement with you before booking. It is not an individual choice at the same price, so please go by the arrangement confirmed for your date.

Can I join from Chandigarh or Manali instead of Delhi?

Yes. Chandigarh travellers join the same overnight service at a Chandigarh point on the first evening and get off earlier on the way back. A Manali start and end is also available with a separate Manali pickup and drop. All three start points are at the same price, so pick whichever is most convenient, and check with the team for exact points and timing.

What sights are covered on the trip?

On the first sightseeing day you visit the Barshangarh Waterfall and spend an easy evening at Shangarh Meadows, with a short village walk if time permits. The next day covers Deori village and the walk to Pundrik Rishi Lake and the temple. On the final valley day you visit the Rupi Raila Waterfall and then one optional activity, rafting, the Raila Twin Towers or the Manu Rishi Temple, chosen for the group.

Do vehicles reach every attraction?

No. Vehicles can only reach designated road-accessible points. From there you walk to attractions such as the waterfalls, the meadows, the temple and Pundrik Rishi Lake. Some paths have slopes, steps and uneven ground. Carry comfortable walking shoes and be ready for walking during sightseeing.

How difficult are the walks?

Easy to moderate, not technical treks. Most sightseeing involves a walk from the vehicle drop point, since vehicles reach only road-accessible points. The Pundrik Rishi walk is through deodar forest, and the Barshangarh and Rupi Raila waterfalls are short walks on uneven ground that can be slippery when wet. If the group picks the Raila Twin Towers as the optional final-day stop, that too involves walking and steps. Good shoes and basic fitness help, and you can sit one out.

Are both waterfalls covered?

Yes. The Barshangarh Waterfall is planned on the first sightseeing day with the meadows, and the Rupi Raila Waterfall on the final valley day on the way out. Both go ahead subject to weather, timing and road and trail access on the day. If access is not safe or open, we rework the plan rather than rushing the group.

Is rafting part of this trip?

Rafting is optional, not included and not guaranteed. On the final day, after the Rupi Raila Waterfall, the group does one optional activity, and rafting is one choice alongside the Raila Twin Towers and the Manu Rishi Temple. Rafting depends on the operator running, suitable river conditions and eligibility, with the location and travel time confirmed first. It costs extra, is paid by those taking part, and never risks the return transport.

What happens on the final day after the waterfall?

After the Rupi Raila Waterfall the group does one optional activity, not all three: rafting in the Kullu or Bhuntar area, the Raila Twin Towers, or the Manu Rishi Temple in the Shanshar area of Sainj Valley. The choice depends on time, road conditions and the return schedule, and we always plan it so no one misses the overnight return.

What kind of stay is included?

A vetted budget hotel or homestay in Shangarh, with clean rooms, simple mountain comfort and food from local kitchens. Both nights are at the same property in Shangarh, confirmed before departure, with breakfast and dinner included.

What room sharing options do you have?

Choose triple, double or single sharing. Triple is the most economical with three to a room, double gives more privacy with two to a room, and single is a private room at a premium. Pick what suits you on the booking widget, subject to availability at your stay.

Is this trip good for couples?

Yes. It works well for couples who want an offbeat Himachal weekend away from the crowds of Manali, Kasol or Jibhi. The pace is relaxed, the setting is scenic and the walks are easy to moderate.

Is this trip five days or four nights?

Both. It is a 5 day, 4 night trip. The four nights are two nights at your stay in Shangarh and two overnight journeys between Delhi and Aut, on Day 1 and Day 4.

What is the best time to visit, and what should I expect in October and November?

These batches run through October and November 2026, a lovely time in the valley. October uses the base timing. In November the days are shorter and colder, so hikes stay in the morning, we leave the meadows earlier for the light, and you should pack warm layers. The property keeps warm bedding and hot water ready.

What meals are included?

2 breakfasts and 2 dinners, on both stay nights in Shangarh: dinner on Day 2, breakfast and dinner on Day 3, and breakfast on Day 4. The arrival-morning breakfast, all lunches, cafe purchases and the dinners on the overnight journeys on Day 1 and Day 4 are not included, so you eat on your own at local spots and highway stops.

Is there mobile network in the valley?

It is patchy. Jio works in some spots and BSNL is usually more reliable in remote Himachal. Let your family know before you head into the valley and download offline maps if you rely on them.

Are there ATMs near Shangarh?

Do not count on ATMs near Shangarh. Carry enough cash for meals, snacks, personal expenses and anything unplanned.
