- Ideal For

Know Before You Go
- Jalori Pass and the higher trails can close for a while after fresh snow. We follow the daily road status and resequence the plan for safety when needed. All times in the plan are rough guesses
- The valley roads are narrow and winding, so drives feel longer than the distance suggests. The Jalori Pass day has the most time on the road, so we start early
- This is a budget trip with simple homestays and guesthouses. Expect timed or limited hot water and basic backup power. Room heaters are commonly chargeable
- Phone network is best around Aut and Banjar and gets patchy deeper in the valleys. ATMs are limited, so carry some cash for meals, entries, and small buys
- There is a day walk on three of the days, at Raghupur Fort, the Chhoie waterfall and Barshangarh, each with a steady uphill stretch. The Chehni Kothi heritage tower can be added on request in place of Chhoie. Pace yourself, carry water, wear grippy shoes, and feel free to sit out any walk you would rather not do
- The Shangarh meadow is sacred to the local community, so we keep to the paths, stay respectful around the temple, and follow the hosts on local customs
- A dedicated trip captain travels with the bigger Social and Full batches, which are groups above 10 people. Smaller batches have a trip coordinator and the local driver
- Pack light with a soft suitcase or duffel and a small daypack for the walks. Carry warm layers for the evenings, which stay cool even in summer, and heavier warm clothes in the snow months
- Hotel check in is usually around 1 to 2 pm and checkout around 11 am. On this trip we arrange an early check in on arrival day where possible, subject to availability
- This trip is not the best fit if you want luxury stays, back to back adventure activities, or a fast cover everything itinerary. It suits travellers who enjoy slow nature days, easy walks, and simple mountain stays
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best time for this trip?
March to June and October to December are the sweet spots. Spring and early summer bring green valleys and full waterfalls. October has clear skies and golden forests. December to March can bring snow around Jalori, which is pretty but can also close the pass for a while.
Will there be snow?
Snow is likely around Jalori Pass from about December to March, and the Raghupur meadows can look lovely in white. Whether you actually reach the pass depends on the daily road status. Lower down in Jibhi, Tirthan, and Shangarh you may see light snow in peak winter, but the valleys usually stay open.
Do we get a trip captain?
A dedicated trip captain travels with every Social batch and Full batch, which are groups above 10 people. The captain leads the trip and looks after the group from start to finish. Smaller Micro and Small batches, up to 10 people, are looked after by a trip coordinator and an experienced local driver.
What vehicle and group size can I expect?
A shared SUV or MUV runs the local driving for the smaller groups, and a Tempo Traveller for the bigger Social and Full batches, based on group size. Groups go from Micro, which is 3 to 5 people, up to a Full batch of 16 to 20. Room sharing can be quad, triple, or double.
What does shared transfers mean?
Your local transfers run on a shared basis with the group on set timings, which keeps the price low. If you want door to door flexibility and your own timings, you can upgrade to a private SUV for an added cost. Tell the team when you book.
Is this good for beginners and families?
Yes. The drives are short and the pace is relaxed, so it works well for couples, families, and first time travellers. There is a day walk on three of the days, at Raghupur Fort, the Chhoie waterfall and Barshangarh, each a steady uphill walk of an hour or two. You can go at your own pace or sit any of them out.
What is the Raghupur Fort trek like?
It is a moderate day walk from Jalori Pass, roughly 3 to 4 kilometres each way, climbing through open meadows to the broken walls of an old fort, with wide mountain views on a clear day. It is not a hard trek, but there is a steady climb, so take it at your own pace, carry water, and wear grippy shoes. If snow or weather closes the trail, we adjust the day and spend more time lower down.
Do we visit the Chhoie waterfall?
Chhoie is a taller waterfall than the Jibhi one, near the Tirthan base by the Chhoie Mata temple, and locals often rate it the better of the two. We stop there on the Shangarh travel day. It is a steeper walk of about an hour each way through forest, so wear grippy shoes and go at your own pace, and you can sit it out and wait near the base if you would rather not climb.
Can we add the Chehni Kothi heritage tower?
Yes, on request. Chehni Kothi is an old Kath Kuni defensive tower near Banjar that survived the 1905 earthquake, one of the tallest traditional structures in the area. It is a moderate uphill walk of about an hour to an hour and a half each way, and the towers are viewed from outside, as local custom does not allow outsiders to climb them. On the Shangarh travel day we can swap it in place of the Chhoie waterfall for groups who prefer heritage, so tell your captain or let the team know when you book.
How fit do I need to be?
A basic level of fitness is enough. These are day walks, not high altitude treks. If you can walk a couple of kilometres uphill at an easy pace with breaks, you will enjoy the Raghupur, Chhoie and Barshangarh walks. Wear grippy shoes and carry water, and skip any walk you would rather not do.
What are the room sharing options?
The base plan is on twin or quad sharing in budget homestays and guesthouses with private bathrooms. You can move to triple or double sharing for an added cost, subject to availability. Tell the team your preference when you book.
What meals are included?
You get 3 breakfasts and 3 dinners on the stay nights, so 6 meals in total on the MAP plan. Lunches, snacks, drinks, and any meals during the Volvo journeys are not included. Jibhi and Shangarh have some nice little cafes for lunch, which you pay for directly.
Can I start from Chandigarh or Manali?
Yes. You can join and exit from Delhi, Chandigarh, or Manali. Chandigarh and Manali cost a little less because you skip part of the Volvo ride. Aut is on the Kullu to Manali highway, so a Manali start works easily. Choose your start point when you book.
What is Mini Thailand?
Mini Thailand, known locally as Kulhi Katandi, is a small turquoise pool set between two big mossy boulders, a short 10 to 15 minute walk from Jibhi village on the road towards Shoja. People nicknamed it Mini Thailand for the beachy look of the rocks and clear water. We visit it along with the Jibhi waterfall on the first day, based on water levels and the trail on the day.
Are there any rules at the Shangarh meadow?
The Shangarh meadow is considered sacred by the local community, so we keep to the walking paths, avoid littering, and stay respectful around the Shangchul Mahadev temple at its edge. Please follow your captain or host on where to walk and where shoes need to come off. It is best to avoid flying a drone unless the locals allow it.
What about phone network and ATMs?
Network is decent around Aut and Banjar and gets weak deeper in the valleys and near Jalori. Carry some cash for meals, entry fees, and small purchases, as ATMs are limited once you are inside the valleys.
How cold does it get?
Evenings stay cool even in summer, so carry a light jacket and warm layers. In the snow months around Jalori it gets properly cold, so bring a good jacket, cap, and gloves. Days are usually pleasant and sunny.
What if Jalori or a trail is closed?
If Jalori or a trail is closed after snow or bad weather, your captain or coordinator changes the plan and picks the safest option for the day. You may spend more time in Jibhi, Tirthan, or Shangarh instead. Safety always comes first, and all times are rough guesses.

⭐ Worst Travel Experience Ever – Felt Like a Punishment Our trip to Jibhi, Himachal Pradesh with this travel agency was a total nightmare. We paid in advance for a soothing, luxurious stay but ended up suffering. The hotel was under construction, full of dust and noise, which badly affected my husband’s dust allergy. There was no room heater unless we paid extra, no complimentary clean water, no tea or coffee options, and our 8-year-old daughter didn’t even get hot milk. The meal menu was the same every day, making the experience even worse. The agency ignored all our messages, and to make it worse, they have no refund or compensation policy. Completely unprofessional, careless, and heartless — they turned our family holiday into a punishment. Avoid this agency at all costs.
