Spiti Bike Trip From Manali With Chandratal

7D/6N

Day inSissuDay inChandratal CampDays inKaza

Highlights

  • Shortest real Spiti bike trip in the market. 7 days, only 5 working days of leave, and you come back with Chandratal, Kaza, Kunzum Pass and the full Manali to Spiti route on your bike
  • Chandratal on Day 3 when your energy and excitement are at their peak, not as a rushed last day gamble that other operators hope the weather allows
  • No wasted day sitting in Manali. Bike allotment, briefing and test ride in the morning, then you are already riding to Sissu through Atal Tunnel by afternoon
  • Full Spiti sightseeing day on the bike: Key Monastery, Hikkim, Komik, Langza and Chicham Bridge
  • The 200 km return ride on Day 6 is on road you have already covered. You know every water crossing and every broken patch. That familiarity is what makes the longest day feel safe
  • Farewell dinner in Manali with the crew before boarding the evening Volvo. The trip ends properly, not in a rush

Know Before You Go

  • This is a fast paced Spiti bike expedition. You cover a lot in 7 days. If you want a relaxed slow trip, this is not the one. If you want Chandratal, Kaza and the full route without burning 10 days of leave, this is exactly the one
  • The route includes rough roads, water crossings, broken patches and high altitude terrain, especially between Gramphu and Batal on Days 3 and 6
  • Chandratal camping depends on road opening, weather and safety. This itinerary does Chandratal on Day 3 so even if weather disrupts, there is a morning attempt on Day 4 before moving to Kaza. That is a much better setup than operators who put Chandratal on the last day
  • On Day 3 you reach Chandratal at 4,300m after sleeping at Sissu at 3,100m. This is a significant altitude gain. Stay hydrated, avoid alcohol, do not overexert and report any headache or nausea to the road captain immediately
  • A valid driving licence is mandatory for all riders. Pillion riders can join under the Dual Rider variant. Non riders can join in the Backup Vehicle seat
  • Day 6 is the longest riding day at approximately 200 km. The road is the same route you covered in the opposite direction on Days 2 to 4, which gives you familiarity and confidence. An early 5 AM start is essential
  • Carry soft luggage only. Rucksacks or duffle bags work best. Trolley bags do not work on bike trips
  • Mobile network is limited around Spiti and absent at Chandratal. Carry enough cash for personal expenses. ATMs are unreliable in Spiti
  • Carry your own riding gear: helmet, jacket, gloves, knee guards and riding shoes. These are not included in the package

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best time for this Spiti bike trip?

Late May to October depending on Kunzum Pass and Chandratal road opening. June to September is the main riding season. October is colder with fewer crowds.

How many leaves do I need?

Only 5 working days. Leave Delhi Friday evening, arrive back Thursday morning. This is the most leave efficient Spiti bike trip available.

Why is Chandratal done early instead of at the end?

Most operators keep Chandratal as the last stop which means one bad weather day cancels the entire experience. In this itinerary, Chandratal is on Day 3 when energy is highest, the lake gets the best evening and morning light, and if weather blocks access there is a buffer attempt possible on Day 4 morning before moving to Kaza. This design significantly improves Chandratal success rates.

Is this suitable for first time Spiti riders?

Yes, if you are confident with basic bike handling and mountain roads. The route has rough patches and water crossings so it is not for complete beginners uncomfortable with long distance riding. Day 2 includes a test ride to assess comfort.

What are the pricing tiers?

Solo Rider (RE Himalayan + fuel): Rs 19,999 (MRP Rs 24,999). Dual Rider (pillion on shared bike): Rs 17,499. Backup Vehicle Seat (full Spiti without riding): Rs 15,999. All prices include Volvo transfers, stays, meals, road captain and support.

Why ride to Sissu on Day 2 instead of staying in Manali?

This saves a full wasted day. Manali to Sissu is only 40 to 50 km on good road through Atal Tunnel. After bike allotment and briefing in the morning, you reach Sissu by late afternoon. No dead day sitting in Manali.

Is altitude sickness a concern reaching Chandratal on Day 3?

You sleep at Sissu (3,100m) on Day 2 which gives one night of acclimatisation before Chandratal (4,300m). Riders on the standard Manali to Kaza route cross Kunzum at 4,590m on a similar timeline anyway. The road captain monitors the group closely and the team carries basic AMS equipment. Stay hydrated and report any symptoms immediately.

Is Chandratal camping guaranteed?

Chandratal is included in the planned route and prioritised early for best odds, but it cannot be guaranteed in unsafe conditions. Access depends on road opening, weather, snow and local permissions. If not accessible, the team adjusts the plan for safety.

Is Day 6 (200 km Kaza to Manali) too long?

It is the longest day but two things make it manageable. First, you have already ridden every kilometre of this road in the opposite direction so you know the water crossings, broken patches and pace. Second, the 5 AM start from Kaza means arrival in Manali by 2 to 3 PM with comfortable time for bike handover, freshening up and farewell dinner before the evening Volvo.

What bike will I get?

Royal Enfield Himalayan 411cc or similar depending on batch availability and maintenance status. Final allocation is done before the ride in Manali.

Are riding gears included?

No. Carry your own helmet, jacket, gloves, knee guards and riding shoes. This is for your safety and comfort. If you do not have gear, we can suggest rental options in Manali.

Can I join without riding a bike?

Yes. Book the Backup Vehicle Seat at Rs 15,999 and travel with the group without riding. You get the same Spiti experience, same stays, same food, same Chandratal camping. Just without the bike.

Is this better than the full 10 day Spiti bike circuit?

Different trips for different needs. The 10 day circuit goes through Kinnaur for gradual acclimatisation and complete route coverage. This 7 day trip is for riders who want Chandratal, Kaza and the Manali to Spiti route with a smarter sequence and only 5 days of leave. Both are real Spiti bike experiences.

What about mobile network and ATMs?

Mobile network is limited around Spiti and completely absent at Chandratal. ATMs are unreliable in Spiti. Carry enough cash for personal expenses and inform your family before entering no network zones.
