Know Before You Go

  • Leh sits at 11,500 ft. Day 1 is strictly for acclimatization. Do not skip it, do not rush it, and avoid any physical exertion on arrival day
  • Stay hydrated throughout the trip. Aim for 3 to 4 litres of water daily and avoid alcohol completely in the first 48 hours
  • Turtuk is close to the Line of Control. Inner Line Permit is required and we arrange it as part of your package
  • Turtuk is a Balti Muslim village. Dress modestly, ask before photographing locals, and respect the cultural customs of the community
  • There are no ATMs, no mobile network, and no fuel stations in Turtuk. Carry sufficient cash before leaving Leh
  • Carry warm layers even in summer. Nights at Pangong and Nubra can drop to near freezing temperatures regardless of the season
  • Mobile network works in Leh town (Jio and Airtel postpaid). Signal is limited or absent at Nubra, Turtuk, Pangong, and en route to the passes
  • Pangong stays operate in permitted village belts such as Spangmik and Merak. Camping on the immediate shoreline is not allowed
  • Pack sunscreen SPF 50+, UV protective sunglasses, lip balm, and heavy moisturizer. The sun at altitude is intense and deceptive

Frequently Asked Questions

What is different about this tour compared to the standard 6 day Leh Ladakh loop?

This tour adds a full extra day dedicated to Turtuk, India's last village before the Pakistan border. Turtuk brings a completely different cultural experience with Balti Muslim heritage, stone lane villages, apricot orchards, and the Balti Heritage Museum. The standard loop covers Leh, Nubra, and Pangong but misses this side of Ladakh entirely.

Is this a group tour or a private tour?

This is a fully private tour. You get your own vehicle, your own driver, and your own schedule. There is no sharing with other travellers and no fixed departure dates. You can start on any day that works for you.

Why is Day 1 only for acclimatization?

Leh sits at 11,500 ft. Your body needs time to adjust to the lower oxygen levels at altitude. Skipping acclimatization or rushing into activity on arrival day increases the risk of altitude sickness. Rest, hydration, and a slow start are the safest way to begin your Ladakh trip.

Is Turtuk safe to visit given its location near the border?

Yes. Turtuk has been open to tourists since 2010 and receives visitors regularly throughout the season. The village is peaceful, welcoming, and well within the permitted tourist zone. An Inner Line Permit is required and we process it as part of your package.

How cold does it get at Pangong and Nubra even in summer?

Daytime temperatures at Pangong and Nubra can feel pleasant in summer, around 15 to 20 degrees. But nights drop sharply, often reaching near freezing or below zero. Carry thermals, a windproof jacket, warm socks, and proper layering regardless of the month.

What about mobile network and ATM access?

Jio and Airtel postpaid SIMs work in Leh town. Outside Leh, including Nubra Valley, Turtuk, Pangong Lake, and the high passes, network is extremely limited or completely absent. ATMs are only in Leh. Carry enough cash before you leave the city.

Do you provide oxygen support on this trip?

Yes. An emergency oxygen cylinder is carried in the vehicle throughout the trip. It is available if anyone needs altitude support. This is a precautionary measure and not a substitute for professional medical treatment.

What if weather or road conditions disrupt the itinerary?

Mountain roads in Ladakh can be affected by weather, landslides, or military movement. If any route becomes unsafe, the driver and on ground team will adjust the plan to the safest workable alternative. Flexibility is part of every Ladakh trip.

Do you include camel rides, ATV, or rafting?

Adventure activities like Bactrian camel rides at Hunder, rafting at Sangam, and ATV rides are available locally and payable directly at the spot. These are not included in the package price so you only pay for what you actually want to do.

Can we add Hanle or Umlingla to this itinerary?

Yes. Extensions to Hanle for stargazing or Umlingla for the highest motorable road can be added with extra days, permits, and costs. Let the team know at the time of booking and we will plan the extended route for you.
