Reach Shimla in the morning. Today is kept free on purpose, so you can recover from the overnight journey before heading into the mountains. Drop your luggage at the hotel, and once you are settled, the day is yours. Rest at the hotel, or if you feel up to it, wander Mall Road, The Ridge and Christ Church at your own pace. There is no packed sightseeing today. Have dinner, sleep well, and be ready for the mountain drive the next morning. A note on check-in: it follows the hotel's policy, so if the room is not ready when you arrive in the morning, you can store your luggage at the property until check-in. Early room access depends on availability and cannot always be guaranteed. Any local transport or personal sightseeing in Shimla is not included unless it is stated in your booking.

After breakfast, meet the mountain vehicle and the rest of the group, and begin the drive into Kinnaur. The road runs through the pine belt of Narkanda, drops to Rampur and follows the Sutlej valley, then crosses at Karcham and turns up into the Baspa valley. Because you rested overnight in Shimla, you start this long road day fresh rather than straight off an overnight bus. We keep sightseeing light today and focus on reaching Sangla comfortably by evening. Check in, have dinner, and relax.

A relaxed day with no packing and no change of hotel. After breakfast, head deeper into the Baspa valley towards Rakcham and Chitkul, the last village on this road before the border. Instead of a quick photo stop, the whole day is yours here. Walk around Chitkul, take in the mountains that mark the border with Tibet, spend some time by the Baspa river, and have a relaxed lunch before driving back to the same stay in Sangla by evening. Chitkul is covered whenever the road is safely accessible. After heavy snow, if the stretch beyond Rakcham is blocked, we explore the best safely accessible parts of the Baspa valley instead.

Start early, around 8:00 am, because today the green of Kinnaur slowly gives way to the cold desert of Spiti. Drive down to Khab Sangam, where the Spiti river meets the Sutlej and the landscape changes completely, then climb the dramatic Ka Loops towards Nako for the village and its high lake. If the Gue road is clear and there is enough daylight, we take the detour to Gue to see the rare, naturally preserved mummy and the small monastery. If the road is frozen, snowbound, or the detour would mean late-night driving, we carry on to Tabo instead. The aim is to reach Tabo comfortably by evening.

A shorter driving day into the heart of Spiti. Start with Tabo Monastery, home to murals over a thousand years old, then stop at Dhankar, the old capital perched high on a ridge above the river. If the Pin Valley road is safely open and there is enough daylight, we take a short drive in for a genuine taste of the valley. We do not promise Mud Village or a deep drive, as that can make the day too rushed. Reach Kaza by evening and settle into your base for the next two nights, with time for the market and the cafes.

The main sightseeing day in Spiti, kept on a weather-permitting basis. Start early and take in the most iconic villages, monasteries and landscapes around Kaza. Langza with its giant Buddha statue and marine fossils in the ground, Hikkim with the world's highest post office where you can post a card home, Komik, one of the highest villages connected by road, the beautiful hilltop Key Monastery, the high village of Kibber, and Chicham Bridge, one of the highest bridges around. When the roads are clear, all of this fits into one full day. The exact order is not fixed. Your driver and coordinator pick the best sequence for the snow, ice, road clearance and daylight on the day. If a road is shut, we cover the best safe alternatives around Kaza and nothing is forced.

The journey back begins, mostly a scenic road day. Since Nako and Tabo were covered properly on the way up, we do not repeat the same stops just to fill the day. Watch the landscape shift slowly from Spiti's bare mountains back to the greener valleys of Kinnaur, with stops for chai and views along the way. Reach Kalpa by evening and check in, back at Kinnaur's slightly lower altitude.

Wake up to the mountain views around Kalpa. After breakfast, and a last look at the Kinnaur Kailash range if the weather allows, begin the drive back to Shimla through Reckong Peo, Karcham, Rampur and the Sutlej valley. The cold desert slowly turns back into the green pine belt, with tea stops and stretch breaks along the way. Reach Shimla by evening and board the overnight Volvo to Delhi.

Arrive in Delhi in the morning, though the exact time can shift with traffic and road conditions. The trip ends here, with a warm goodbye from the team and a phone full of winter Spiti memories. You have rested in Shimla, crossed from green valleys to cold desert and back, and seen villages most people only read about.
