Manali Itinerary for 3 Days: Local Manali, Solang, Sissu and Best Route Order

Manali16 minutes read
Manali Itinerary for 3 Days

If you are searching for a manali itinerary for 3 days, you are probably staring at twenty different blog plans that all cram Rohtang, Kasol, Solang and Sissu into 72 hours.

That plan does not work. We run this route every season and we have seen what happens when people try it.

Here is the version that actually works, in the order that saves you the most driving.

Quick Answer: Are Three Days Enough for Manali?

Yes. Three full sightseeing days cover Manali properly for a first trip.

Keep Day 1 for Hadimba Temple, Old Manali, Vashisht or Van Vihar, and Mall Road.

Keep Day 2 for Solang Valley with one or two seasonal activities.

Keep Day 3 for Sissu through the Atal Tunnel corridor.

Three calendar days including your arrival and departure is a different thing, and it will feel rushed. Three nights and four days is the comfortable version.

If you want someone else to handle the driver, stays and daily timing, our Manali tour packages are built around exactly this route order.

The Best Three-Day Manali Route at a Glance

Sissu Vs Solang Valley In June_ Which Is Better.jpg

Day 1 stays local. Temples, Old Manali lanes, one riverside or hot-spring stop, and Mall Road in the evening.

Day 2 goes up the Solang corridor. One mountain road, one main destination, back by evening.

Day 3 goes further up the same corridor and through the Atal Tunnel to Sissu.

The logic is simple. Local sightseeing needs no mountain driving at all, so it gets its own day.

Solang and Sissu sit on the same road, but they are two separate experiences. Splitting them means you never rush either one.

Before You Start: Do You Have Three Full Days or Three Calendar Days?

Mall Road manali.jpg

This is the single biggest mistake we see. People count an overnight Volvo journey as Day 1.

Your bus may reach Manali at 7 AM. But you will be tired, you will want breakfast, your luggage needs a room, and check-in is not always instant.

Hotel check-in and checkout times, along with early luggage-storage arrangements, vary by property. Confirm all three directly with the hotel before booking.

By the time all of that is done, your first day is a half day.

A three-night, four-day trip gives you an arrival evening plus three full sightseeing days. That is the version we recommend to most first-timers.

An overnight road journey is travel time. Do not count it as sightseeing.

Day 1: Local Manali Sightseeing in the Right Order

Hadimba Temple in Manali.jpg

Begin at Hadimba Devi Temple

Hadimba Devi Temple sits inside a deodar forest just above the main town, dedicated to Hidimba Devi.

The structure is a wooden pagoda-style temple, and the forest around it is what people remember more than the shrine itself.

Start here because it is closest to most hotel areas, the crowd is thinnest in the morning, and you get the forest light before the tour buses arrive.

Check the latest visitor timings, parking arrangements and any temporary closure notices before you go.

Add Ghatotkach Shrine Briefly

The Ghatotkach shrine sits in the same forest area as Hadimba. Treat it as part of the same stop.

You do not need to book separate transport or plan a separate slot for it. Walk over, spend a few minutes, move on.

Continue to Old Manali

Old Manali is the part of town people fall in love with. Narrow village lanes, cafés, small shops, guesthouses, and a pace that is completely different from the main market.

Walk it wherever you can. That is the whole point of the place.

During busy periods, vehicle access and parking here get genuinely difficult. Our drivers usually drop travellers at the lower end and pick them up later rather than trying to squeeze up the lane.

Visit Manu Temple Only When Time and Mobility Allow

Manu Temple sits in Old Manali and is dedicated to Sage Manu.

It involves a climb through the village lanes. If your day started late, this is the first thing to drop.

Check the latest access conditions and visitor timings before including Manu Temple in your day.

Choose Between Vashisht and Van Vihar

Pick one. Not both.

Vashisht suits you if you want the temple village atmosphere and the hot springs. We are not going to make any health claims about the water, but the village itself is worth the short drive.

Van Vihar suits families, senior travellers, or anyone who wants a simple, central, low-effort stop with tall deodars and a walk that does not tire anyone out.

Check the latest Van Vihar entry fees, boating availability and opening hours before your visit.

End at Mall Road

Finish on Mall Road. Dinner, shopping, a slow walk, whatever your energy allows.

Here is the local tip most guides skip. The shops on the upper lanes behind Mall Road sell the same shawls and caps the main-road shops do, usually for less, because their rent is lower.

What Should You Remove if Day 1 Starts Late?

Entrance of Manu Temple Manali.jpg

Drop Manu Temple first. It needs the most walking for the least payoff when you are already tired.

Then pick either Vashisht or Van Vihar. Doing both after a late start turns your evening into a rush.

Do not add Jogini Waterfall on a delayed arrival day. It needs a proper walk and daylight you will not have.

Your reduced core is Hadimba Temple, a short Old Manali walk, and Mall Road. That is a genuinely good first day.

And do not push everything you missed onto Day 2. Day 2 already has a full mountain road on it.

Day 2: Solang Valley Without Turning It into a Checklist

Quick Answer_ Should You Visit Solang in March.jpg

Start Early After Checking Current Conditions

The Manali to Solang stretch backs up badly on high-demand dates. Weekends, holidays, snow days.

We will not give you one guaranteed departure time because the right time changes with the season and the crowd.

Check current traffic, road, and weather conditions through official advisories, your hotel, your driver, or a reputable operator the night before and again in the morning.

Make Solang the Main Experience

Solang Valley is roughly 13 kilometres from Manali. On paper that is nothing. In peak-season traffic it can take a while.

Solang is a mountain-view meadow with seasonal adventure activities. That is the honest description.

We cannot guarantee snow for a future date. Nobody can. If a package promises you snow in a specific month, that is a sales line, not a forecast.

Check the latest road access and confirm which activities are operating before travelling to Solang Valley, as availability depends on weather and local conditions.

Choose Only One or Two Major Activities

Paragliding, skiing, the ropeway, ATV rides and zorbing are the usual options.

Whether any of them run on your day depends on weather, season, safety rules, queue length, and whether that operator is working.

We are not quoting prices here because they move constantly and vary by operator. Fix your rate before you get in the harness or on the vehicle, not after.

Here is the honest negative about Solang. On a peak weekend it can feel like a crowded fairground rather than a mountain meadow. If that is not your thing, go early or plan a quieter Day 2.

Our guide to adventure activities in Manali breaks down which ones suit which kind of traveller.

Do Not Continue to Sissu After a Full Solang Experience

This is where people ruin their trip.

A full Solang activity session plus full Sissu sightseeing in one day means you rush both and enjoy neither.

Combining them only works when Solang is a fifteen-minute photo stop on the way, nothing more.

Keep the Evening Light

Come back, eat properly, rest. Or use the evening for Mall Road, or one small local stop you missed on Day 1 if you are back early.

In our experience, travellers who keep Day 2 evening free are the ones who actually enjoy Day 3.

Day 3: Sissu Through the Atal Tunnel Corridor

Manali To Jispa Via Atal Tunnel.jpg

Follow the Efficient Route Order

Manali, then the Solang corridor, then the Atal Tunnel south portal, out at the north portal, then Sissu.

The tunnel is infrastructure, not a viewpoint. Do not stop, park, walk, film, or take photographs inside it.

There is a proper photo spot outside the south portal. Use that instead.

Use Realistic Distance and Drive-Time Guidance

Our main route guide puts Sissu at roughly 38 to 40 kilometres from Manali, with a normal drive time of about 1 to 1.5 hours.

Traffic, snow, photo stops, tunnel controls and weather can stretch that to about 1.5 to 2 hours.

One of our older articles lists 60 to 70 kilometres for the same route, but that likely reflects a different endpoint or routing method.

Use approximately 38 to 40 kilometres for Manali to central Sissu and confirm the exact distance for your chosen pickup and drop-off points.

Whatever number you use, treat it as a best case. Mountain drive times only go one direction, and it is not shorter.

Visit Sissu in a Practical Order

Do Sissu Lake first, then the waterfall viewpoint, then the helipad or Chandra River area when it is accessible, then a proper meal or tea stop.

We are not promising boating, waterfall flow, parking or access on your date. All of it changes with season and conditions.

The dhabas near the Sissu lake area serve the last proper hot meal before you turn back. A plate of rajma chawal and a glass of tea there is better than anything you will find rushing back through the tunnel at dusk.

According to the district administration, Sissu sits at roughly 3,130 metres on the right bank of the Chandra River.

Here is the timing tip that changes this day. Reach Sissu before 10 AM. The light on the lake and the reflection of the peaks behind it are completely different early, and the day-trip crowd from Manali has not arrived yet.

Keep the Solang Stop Brief

You already gave Solang a full day. Do not repeat the activities on the way back.

A quick stop for chai or a photo is fine. A second paragliding session is how people end up driving the last stretch in the dark.

For the full route breakdown, see our Manali to Sissu road trip guide and our list of places to visit in Sissu.

Weather Plan B: What if Sissu Is Not Accessible?

Jana Waterfall - Hidden in Deodar Forests.jpg

The Lahaul and Spiti district road-status page listed Manali to Keylong as open when we researched this. That was a snapshot on one date, not a permanent status.

Things change fast here. Access to Solang, the Atal Tunnel and Sissu was temporarily restricted on April 29, 2026 because of an official visit. Heavy snowfall disrupted roads and transport during January 2026.

Neither of those is a reason to cancel. Both are reasons to have a Plan B ready.

Replace Sissu with Naggar

Naggar Castle and the Nicholas Roerich Art Gallery and Estate make a good lower-altitude replacement day.

Check the latest entry fees, opening hours, weekly closure days, road access and parking arrangements before visiting. The Nicholas Roerich Art Gallery and Estate may be closed on certain days, so confirm its schedule in advance.

Add Jana Waterfall Only When Conditions Suit

Water flow, the road, parking and the walking conditions at Jana Waterfall all change by season.

Ask your driver on the morning itself rather than committing to it the night before.

Return Through Selected Kullu-Side Stops

Pick one stop on the way back. A shawl factory, a temple, a viewpoint. One.

Three shopping detours will eat the whole afternoon and you will not remember any of them.

Keep the Evening Relaxed

A café, the monastery, Van Vihar or Mall Road. Nothing that needs driving.

More alternatives in our guide to offbeat places near Manali.

What if Solang Is Not Practical on Day 2?

Naggar.jpg

Keep Day 2 and Day 3 interchangeable. That flexibility is the whole point of this route order.

If Solang is restricted or the weather is bad, use that day for Naggar and lower-altitude Manali instead.

Then attempt Solang or Sissu on the remaining day, after checking current weather and road status.

What you must not do is force both mountain routes into one leftover day. That is a twelve-hour day with two rushed destinations.

Can You Cover Solang and Sissu on the Same Day?

If Solang Has Less Snow, Where Should You Go Instead.jpg

Geographically, yes. They are on the same road.

Comfortably, no. Not as two complete experiences.

A short Solang stop combined with a Sissu day trip works fine. A full Solang activity session plus full Sissu sightseeing does not.

For first-time visitors, families and senior travellers, we always recommend separate days.

Can Rohtang Pass Be Added?

What Can You Do When Rohtang Pass Is Closed.jpg

Rohtang Pass is seasonal. Access depends on road clearance, official opening, weather, permits, quotas, traffic management and vehicle rules.

We are not quoting a permit fee, an opening date, a quota, or the current road status, because all of those change and a stale number in a blog is worse than no number.

If Rohtang is confirmed open and you have a permit, it replaces either your Solang day or your Sissu day. It does not get added on top.

Trying to do full Solang, full Sissu and Rohtang in three days is the fastest way to spend your holiday inside a vehicle.

Our Rohtang Pass in September guide explains how the seasonal access usually plays out.

What Must You Skip in a Three-Day Manali Trip?

Kasol and Manikaran. They sit in a different valley and need their own overnight. Squeezing them in means a full day of driving for a two-hour visit.

A separate Kullu shopping day. You will pass Kullu-side shops anyway. Do not give them a day.

Jogini Waterfall after a late arrival. Save it for a four-day trip.

A repeat full Solang session on your Sissu day.

Rohtang without confirmed access. Driving up to find it closed is a wasted day.

Several long adventure activities stacked together. Two is plenty.

Hamta Pass and Bhrigu Lake are treks, not sightseeing stops. Both need separate planning, fitness and days.

And avoid stacking late nights against early starts. Two nights of bad sleep at altitude will do more damage to your trip than any road closure.

Three-Day Manali Itinerary for Different Travellers

Couples

Old Manali, the Hadimba forest, a long café stop, Solang, and Sissu.

Keep shopping short if slow time together matters more than bags.

Families

One main circuit per day. Nothing more.

Build in real meal and toilet breaks, and remember that not every Solang activity suits every child. Check age and weight rules before you commit.

Senior Citizens

Cut down the Old Manali walking. Drop Jogini Waterfall entirely.

Van Vihar, the monastery, or Naggar work better where the walking is flatter and shorter.

Friends

Take the extra Solang activity time. You will enjoy it.

Just do not let a long Solang day roll into a rushed Sissu evening.

Winter Travellers

Keep Days 2 and 3 fully interchangeable and decide each morning.

Snow, ice, traffic controls and road restrictions can change which destination is actually reachable on any given day.

How to Adapt This into a 3-Night/4-Day Manali Itinerary

Arrival day is for check-in, Mall Road, dinner and sleep. Nothing else.

First full day is local Manali. Second full day is Solang. Third full day is Sissu, or Plan B if the road says otherwise.

Departure morning is for breakfast, a short walk, some shopping, or Van Vihar, but only once your luggage and onward transport are sorted.

This works better because your first day is not half-eaten by a bus journey, and you have a spare day when a road closes.

How Much Does a Three-Day Manali Itinerary Cost?

Everything below comes from published operator quotations for 2026. These are market examples, not official fixed rates.

Local sightseeing runs roughly ₹1,800 to ₹3,000 for selected vehicle categories.

Solang Valley vehicle quotations run roughly ₹2,000 to ₹4,000.

Atal Tunnel and Sissu quotations run roughly ₹3,000 to ₹4,999.

For all three circuits combined, use ₹7,000 to ₹12,000 per vehicle as a broad planning range rather than a fixed price. Confirm the final quote based on vehicle type, travel dates, season, waiting time, parking, pickup point and route inclusions.

Hotel, food, transport to Manali, activities, taxes, parking, shopping and a contingency amount are all on top of that.

Here is the money tip

Book one vehicle for all three days with the same driver rather than hiring fresh each morning. Operators quote better for a three-day block, and you skip the daily negotiation at your hotel gate.

Smart Route and Time-Planning Tips

Keep every local Manali attraction on Day 1. All of them.

Do not repeat full Solang sightseeing on your Sissu day.

Start both mountain-road days early, after checking current advisories that morning.

Keep Days 2 and 3 interchangeable and decide the night before.

Pick your Solang activities before you reach the activity area. Deciding in the middle of a crowd with touts around you is how people overpay.

Confirm hotel pickup point, parking and vehicle access with your driver in advance.

Keep Naggar as your standing lower-altitude Plan B.

Do not trust online map drive times on peak dates. They do not know about traffic controls or a snow queue at the tunnel.

Do not stop inside the Atal Tunnel.

And do not schedule a long onward journey for the same night you return from Sissu.

Is Three Days the Right Duration for You?

Two days gets you highlights only. Local Manali and one mountain trip.

Three days covers local Manali, Solang and Sissu properly. That is the sweet spot for a first visit.

Four days adds a weather buffer and a slower pace, which matters a lot here.

Five days makes sense when Naggar, Kasol, Manikaran or Rohtang is a real priority rather than an afterthought.

Need a Three-Day Manali Plan for Your Dates?

What we tell every traveller who calls us is that the plan matters less than the order. Get the order right and a road closure costs you one destination instead of your whole trip.

We can adjust arrival and departure timing, hotel area, pacing for families or couples, Solang activity choices, Sissu access, weather alternatives, private transport and budget around your actual dates.

Start with our Manali tour packages and tell us what you want changed.

Local Manali sightseeing on Day 1, Solang Valley on Day 2, and Sissu through the Atal Tunnel on Day 3.

What is the best route order?

Local Manali first, then Solang, then Sissu. It keeps town sightseeing separate from mountain-road days.

Is a three-night and four-day trip better?

Yes for most first-timers. You get an arrival evening plus three full days and a buffer if a road closes.

Sissu is roughly 38 to 40 kilometres from Manali, depending on your exact start and end points.

How long does Manali to Sissu take?

Roughly 1 to 1.5 hours in normal conditions, stretching to about 1.5 to 2 hours with traffic, snow, tunnel controls or stops.

Kasol, Manikaran, a separate Kullu shopping day, Jogini Waterfall after a late arrival, and any trek like Hamta or Bhrigu.

What is the best weather Plan B?
