Know Before You Go
- This is a 4x4 expedition, not a luxury holiday. The Jimny or Scorpio N handles the expedition route but the roads and stays are the same raw Zanskar. That is what makes it special
- Delhi to Manali and back is by Volvo. The Jimny or Scorpio N covers the full expedition route from Manali to Zanskar and back to Manali including all sightseeing in Zanskar. For Manali local exploration on Day 2, a local vehicle may be used if needed
- The vehicle depends on batch size and availability. Travel Coffee assigns the vehicle before departure
- Pack light. One rucksack or soft duffle. No trolley bags. Both Jimny and Scorpio N work best with compact luggage
- Shinku La, Baralacha La, Pensi La, Drang Drung Glacier, Suraj Tal, and Deepak Tal are all condition based. Covered only if the road is open and safe
- Phugtal Monastery requires walking from the last motorable point. Be comfortable with 1 to 2 hours of walking on mountain trails
- Route, stays, and sightseeing may change based on snow clearance, landslides, weather, and local updates. Flexibility is part of Zanskar travel
- Network is weak or gone in most of Zanskar. Carry cash, power bank, and inform your family before entering remote sections
- Stays are basic to comfortable. Hot water and electricity may be limited. The premium feel comes from the 4x4 vehicle and the smaller group, not the stays
- If you have serious health concerns, especially cardiac or respiratory, consult your doctor before booking
Frequently Asked Questions
How is this different from the standard Zanskar group tour?
Same route and destinations. The standard group tour uses a shared Tempo Traveller at Rs 20,999. This expedition uses a Jimny or Scorpio N for the expedition route in a smaller batch at Rs 32,999. The vehicle, the group size, and the feel of the trip are completely different.
What vehicle will I travel in?
Delhi to Manali and back is by Volvo. The full expedition route from Manali through Zanskar and back to Manali runs in a Jimny or Scorpio N. Travel Coffee assigns the vehicle based on batch size and availability. For local sightseeing in Manali on Day 2, a local vehicle may be arranged if needed.
Can I choose between Jimny and Scorpio N?
The vehicle is assigned by the team based on batch size and availability. If you have a preference, let the team know and they will try to accommodate where possible.
Is this suitable for couples?
Very much. The small batch format and the 4x4 make this feel more personal than a regular group tour. Many couples choose this over a fully private trip.
Is this good for content creators and photographers?
One of the best trips for visual content. Gonbo Rangjon, Drang Drung Glacier, Shinku La, Phugtal trail, and a 4x4 on raw mountain roads give you frames that most creators never get. Smaller group means more time at scenic stops.
Is Phugtal Monastery included?
Yes. You walk towards Phugtal from the last motorable point. The distance depends on road conditions. Be comfortable walking 1 to 2 hours on mountain trails.
Are the passes and lakes guaranteed?
Shinku La, Baralacha La, Pensi La, Drang Drung Glacier, Suraj Tal, and Deepak Tal are all condition based. Covered only if the road is open and safe. The trip captain decides on ground.
What kind of stays?
Simple, clean mountain stays on sharing basis. The premium feel comes from the 4x4 vehicle and the small batch format, not the stays. Zanskar stays are basic regardless of which variant you choose.
What meals are included?
Breakfast and dinner on all 5 stay nights. That is 10 meals. Lunches and Volvo meals are on you.
Will there be mobile network?
Weak or gone in most of Zanskar. Inform your family before the trip. Carry cash, power bank, and offline maps.
Can the itinerary change?
Yes. Zanskar roads, weather, and conditions are unpredictable. Route, stays, and sightseeing may change. Safety always comes first.
What about luggage?
Pack light. One rucksack or soft duffle. No trolley bags. Both Jimny and Scorpio N work best with compact luggage.
Best time?
June to September depending on road conditions. Shinku La and the Zanskar road need to be open.
Who should avoid this trip?
Travellers who want luxury stays, short drives, strong network, or fully predictable comfort. This is a raw expedition with better vehicles, not a luxury holiday.
