Know Before You Go
- Most travellers on this trip come solo. A pre trip WhatsApp group is created before every departure so everyone can connect before Day 1
- Your female trip coordinator stays with the group from Delhi pickup to Delhi drop and is your main point of contact throughout the trip
- Chandratal and Kunzum are seasonal and condition led. Access depends fully on road clearance and weather at the time of travel
- Camping happens only at the designated camping zone near Chandratal. The lake is visited on foot and there is no camping at the shore
- Spiti is high altitude. Stay hydrated, sleep well, and follow all acclimatisation guidance shared by your trip coordinator
- Mobile network is limited beyond Kaza and ATMs can be unreliable. Carry enough cash for personal expenses, snacks, and any period related essentials you may need
- Several days involve long drives through mountain terrain. A flexible mindset helps a lot
- Emergency oxygen is carried for support purposes only. The charge applies only if the cylinder is used and it is not a substitute for professional medical treatment
- Pack warm layers including thermals. Kaza nights are 5 to 10 degrees and Chandratal can drop to near freezing even in peak summer
- Pack comfortable, layered clothing that works for long drives and short walks. Loose pants, thermal inners, a warm jacket, and sturdy shoes. You do not need trekking gear but you do need layers that actually keep you warm at 14,000 ft
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this all girls Spiti trip safe for solo women travellers?
Yes. Every departure has a female trip coordinator who stays with the group from Delhi to Delhi. All stays are personally checked for clean washrooms, secure rooms, and reliable hot water. The drivers are experienced locals. A pre trip WhatsApp group is created before departure so you can connect with your travel mates before the trip even begins. Most women on this trip come solo and the group starts bonding very quickly.
I have never travelled solo before. Will I be okay on this trip?
This is one of the best first solo trips you can take. You are not really alone because you have a female coordinator, a group of women doing the same thing, and a pre trip WhatsApp group where you connect before Day 1. Most women on this trip are first time solo travellers and they all say the same thing afterwards: they wish they had done it sooner.
Why should I choose this over a regular Spiti group tour?
Because the experience is designed around how women travel. Verified stays with clean washrooms and secure rooms. A female coordinator who understands your concerns. A group where you do not have to explain why you need a bathroom stop or why you want to spend extra time at a viewpoint. The route is the same, but the comfort and the energy are completely different.
What is the best time for this trip?
Mid June through early October. This is when Kunzum Pass and the Chandratal camping zone are generally accessible, depending on snow clearance and road conditions.
Is Chandratal camping guaranteed?
Chandratal camping is always subject to road and weather conditions. In most departures during the main season it runs as planned. If access becomes unsafe, the route is adjusted on ground and an alternate stay may be arranged in Batal or Manali.
What is the age group on this trip?
Most travellers are usually in the 22 to 35 age group but women of all ages who are reasonably fit for high altitude travel are welcome.
What should I pack for periods and personal hygiene?
Carry your preferred menstrual and personal hygiene supplies for the full duration of the trip. Pharmacies are limited beyond Shimla and very rare beyond Kaza. Do not depend on finding essentials on the route.
What about mobile network and ATMs in Spiti?
BSNL usually has the best coverage on the Spiti circuit. Airtel and Jio may work in Shimla, Sangla, Kalpa, and parts of Kaza but become unreliable or disappear beyond that. ATMs are available in Reckong Peo and Kaza but they may be out of cash or offline. Carry enough cash.
How cold does it get at Chandratal and Kaza in summer?
Kaza is usually pleasant during the day but nights can get quite cold. Chandratal is colder than Kaza and night temperatures can get close to freezing even in peak summer. Warm layers, thermals, and a proper windproof jacket make a big difference.
Do you provide oxygen support?
Yes. Emergency oxygen is carried in the vehicle on every departure as a safety support measure. The charge applies only if the cylinder is actually used. It is not a substitute for professional medical treatment.
What happens if Kunzum Pass or Chandratal access is not safe?
If conditions become unsafe due to landslides, weather, or road closure, the team adjusts the route in real time. An alternate stay in Batal or Manali may be arranged. Safety always comes first.
Can I join with a friend or does everyone come solo?
Both work well. Many travellers come solo and many join with a friend or sibling. The group format and pre trip WhatsApp coordination make it easy for everyone to connect quickly.
What are the stays like?
Women friendly verified stays at every stop. This means clean washrooms, secure rooms, and reliable hot water. These are homestays, guesthouses, and hotels that have been personally checked. At Chandratal, camping is in proper tents at the designated camping zone.
What does Pin Valley and Mud Village add to this trip?
Pin Valley is one of the most beautiful and unexpected stretches of the Spiti circuit. Mud Village feels remote and raw in a way that the main Kaza area does not. These stops add real depth and make this itinerary feel more complete than trips that skip straight from Tabo to Kaza.
