IMD's 1991 to 2020 normals put Srinagar's February mean daily minimum at 0.7°C and the mean daily maximum at 10.5°C.

These are historical averages across thirty years. They are not a forecast for February 2027.

What that means on the ground is a sharp gap between morning and afternoon. A sunny 10°C afternoon in a Srinagar market feels completely different from 6 AM outside your hotel.

Srinagar does not get snow on every February trip. Some years the city stays brown and cold while Gulmarg is buried.

Conditions change a lot within Pahalgam itself. The town, the open valley stretches and the higher areas can all feel different on the same day.

After snowfall, road access to local points changes fast. Check locally on the morning you plan to move.

Will It Snow in Kashmir in February 2027?

There are two different questions here and people mix them up constantly.

One is whether snow will already be lying on the ground when you arrive. The other is whether fresh snow will fall during your dates.

Old snow cover is far more likely in Gulmarg than in Srinagar. Fresh snowfall on your specific four or five days is a gamble, always.

Is the Gulmarg Gondola Open in February?

The Gondola usually runs through winter. Usually is doing a lot of work in that sentence.

It gets suspended for weather, maintenance or technical problems. A 2026 technical disruption temporarily closed it before it reopened.

The official site reported the Gondola operating at the time of our research in July 2026.

The official maintenance schedule currently lists closures on the second and fourth Monday of each month, but check the latest February 2027 notice before booking.

Current operating information lists boarding from 8:00 AM, boarding closure at 3:30 PM and the last return at 5:00 PM. Confirm the timings again for your travel date.

Third-party websites currently show fares of around ₹810 for Phase 1 and ₹1,010 for Phase 2, but check the official portal for the latest February 2027 ticket prices.

Keep the sightseeing light. Do not promise yourself access to every local valley.

Day 5: Pahalgam, Sonamarg or Srinagar Plan B

Choose Sonamarg only after checking road and local attraction status that morning.

If the weather is poor, fall back to Srinagar. It is the most dependable option in the valley.

Day 6: Departure

Give yourself real time for a winter flight or rail connection. Delays are normal in February, not exceptional.

By train

The Kashmir Valley joined India's wider rail network in June 2025. Katra to Srinagar Vande Bharat services were introduced.

By road

What Should You Pack for Kashmir in February?

Start with thermal layers, top and bottom. Two sets if you are staying more than four days.

Add an insulating middle layer, usually fleece or a light down jacket, and a wind-resistant outer shell over that.

Waterproof insulated boots matter more than anything else you pack. Woollen socks, gloves and something covering your head and ears.

Ordinary sports shoes will soak through in twenty minutes. Decorative snow boots from online stores usually have no grip on ice.

Carry sunglasses and sunscreen. Snow glare at altitude burns you faster than you expect, even on a cold day.

Also pack moisturiser, lip balm, your regular medicines, a power bank and spare batteries. Cold drains phone and camera batteries fast.
